About Pastor Gray

Pastor Joseph E. Gray has roots that reach deep into the history of the Refreshing Spring Church of God In Christ. Brought to an early knowledge of God by his mother, Evangelist Susie Goley, and his grandmother, Mother Daisy Maude Holloway, the young Joseph Gray was nurtured and trained under the leadership of the late Bishop Archie D. Headen.

Even as a child, “Spunky”, as he was known, demonstrated an unusual zeal toward the study of God’s word, an early indication of the gifts the Lord had deposited in him. In 1978, to no one’s surprise but his own, he acknowledged the call on his life and was ordained in 1984.
From 1986 to 2004 he was the instructor of the Old Testament Studies at the Refreshing Spring Bible Institute in Riverdale, Maryland. In 2012, he received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Institute.

Although he pursued his secular education at Wilberforce University, the true preparation for his life’s work began when God promised to be his personal instructor in unfolding the mysteries of His Word, a promise which was abundantly fulfilled in his life. Bishop Headen, seeing the qualities of leadership in this studious young man, entrusted him with many responsibilities at Refreshing Spring.

Elder Joseph Gray fervently promotes the authority of the believer through Jesus’ name, having confronted the strongholds of the enemy during 25 years of service with the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. He now serves as Founder and Pastor of God Glorified Church of God In Christ, where his ministry is characterized by a zeal to expound the Word of God in its purity and simplicity and to uphold the name of Christ above all others. He was appointed Assistant Superintendent of the Sherman Scott Howard District in July 2014, and appointed Superintendent in November 2015 and officially installed on March 13, 2016.

First Lady Dorothy Marie Gray (his wife of forty-seven years) transitioned from labor to reward. God blessed Superintendent Gray and Lady Evanjerl Gray, Esq., in holy matrimony. They are enjoying a blended family they lovingly embrace of six adult children, and eighteen grandchildren.
